Car rentals: regardless of the company from which you rent your car, you must have an International Driving Permit. You can obtain one for $20 from AAA (members and non-members). See https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html for more info.

NOTE: only locals are allowed to drive within certain areas of Florence and in the towns of Tuscany. Without the special permit, you can be fined if stopped. Visitors are only allowed to park in certain areas as well. Please familiarize yourself with the restrictions if you plan to rent a car.

Train system: If taking a train for all or part of your travels, you can get from the Florence airport (FLR) to the main train station in Florence - Santa Maria Novella (SMN). From SMN you can take a regional train to another station.

NOTE: Ubers are not readily available in this region of Italy. While there may be Uber Black services available, we don’t recommend relying on this as your mode of transportation as they may not be timely.
